  • What consequences did acquiring horses have on the Ute's existence?

The Northern Ute were the first tribe to acquire the horse from the Spanish.  At first they referred to the animals as "Magic Dogs", but eventually ended up raising and trading them, and found great use for them in hunting bison and conducting raids.  The Ute were so successful at the hunt that they nearly exterminated all the buffalo from their land.
