  • Is it true the Ute Indians were slave traders?

Yes, the Ute were known to trade slaves, which were generally captured enemies whom they would trade with other natives and settlers.  This was not a practice which was customary to the Ute, but one which was acquired from the Spanish, along with the use of  horses.
